Did you know that many people experiencing homelessness don’t enter shelters because their pets can’t join them? LICH outreach staff encounter this situation regularly in our work. In fact, our free pantry includes items for pets, including food and bedding, in addition to a stock of nonperishable items and toiletries for people who are unhoused, unsheltered, and at risk in our communities. Our Pets + People Photoshoot helped shine a light on how the love of our beloved pets on Long Island impacts lives across many lived experiences. Check out this proposed bill that NYS Senator Monica Martinez created to keep people experiencing homelessness and their pets together!
Thank you to all who joined us this year on December 14th and 15th, and to our friend Milo the Mutt, our office mascot who brings us joy each day of the year! Check out some of our event photos, and plan to come next year for holiday memories with your furry family members!
