As temperatures plunged on Long Island, Long Island Coalition for the Homeless Street Outreach Specialist Erin Tittmann was in Brentwood to check on homeless and unsheltered community members. For the last two months, Erin has been working with Raymond and encouraging him to consider shelter options. Although Raymond has so far declined the limited options available, Erin continues to look for more permanent housing for Raymond, and she meets with him regularly, assesses his immediate needs, and provides him with supplies that might increase his chances of remaining healthy while living outdoors. Raymond spoke to News 12 Long Island, allowing them to film him. The Coalition’s Safe Options Support-Critical Time Intervention (SOS-CTI) program uses trauma-informed care and person-centered approaches to address the immediate needs of unhoused and unsheltered community members, prioritizing their stabilization until they are housed. Raymond has also been seen by Northwell Health’s Street Medicine team. Watch the report from News 12 Long Island here.
